Three Frames of Decision-Making

This topic belongs to the Virtual World and to the method of choosing at a point of choice.

In real life we often say: “a decision must be made”.

But choice situations are structured differently.

First Frame: Several Options

There are several options.

One of them must be chosen.

Here the main task is to compare the options and choose the best one.

Second Frame: One Option, But Refusal Is Possible

There is one option.

But it is possible to refuse it.

Here the main question is not “which option is better?”, but “should I enter or not enter?”.

Third Frame: One Bad Option, Refusal Is Impossible

There is one option.

It is bad.

Refusal is impossible.

But damage can be minimized.

Here the main question is: how can one pass through the situation with minimal losses?

These three frames must be distinguished in advance. Otherwise we begin to apply to one situation a mode of thinking intended for another.
